Last Night

I know I already posted once today, but, since it has been a few days since the last one, I thought we would have two today.

So, last night we went out for a wonderful dinner.

This was much needed, as I had kind of a rough day, thanks in part to these two culprits:
(This is Bella, the third member of our household.  She may look innocent, but, in fact, she is not always.)

                                                                and

(He may not look quite as innocent.  That is because he is not.  But he is pretty darn cute.)

They are most certainly partners in crime.  I have told Christos probably 4,742 times not to feed Bella bones.  They do not "agree" with her views on digestion and, consequently, do not stay around in her long.  Well, two nights ago, he gave her "just a really small piece" of his porkchop bone, as he absolutely cannot say no to that dog (in case you are wondering, I can.)  Well, my parmesan porkchops came back to make a stellar encore performance yesterday morning....on the couch.  I was not a happy camper....at all.

In order to forestall any further "wrath o' Haley," he called yesterday afternoon and announced that we officially had a dinner date (smart man.)

We went down to the bay of "Garitsa" a beautiful little area in Corfu town full of small Greek fishing boats, large yachts, and a beautiful view of the old fortress of Corfu.

This is one of our favorite places on the island and, along the bay, is actually where Christos proposed.  Our favorite restaurant "Faros" (meaning lighthouse in Greek) has not opened yet for the season, so we found a new place.

                                                   This is the "Faros"

Although I am fairly certain the actual light comes from the little red and white contraption seen below.

Can I please tell you that every single restaurant/taverna/bar on this island (probably on this continent) has rolled down a large screen in the middle of the room in honor of the World Cup.  Each and every man in the room/ whole continent is seated on the side of the table facing the TV, looking a bit like this.....
while us women are seated, happily, with our backs to the TV, stealing steak from our man's plate and looking a lot like this.....

After dinner we took a little stroll.
And we tried to get at least one picture where Christos did not close his eyes in the face of the camera flash...
as it did not really happen, we resorted to this:

I also tried to make Christos be my decoy (like stand there and let me pretend to be taking pictures of him while really taking pictures of other people/things behind him for my blog,) and that was also a no-go.

But it was really fun.

And it totally made up for the bad day!!!!!!!!

On a related note, I cannot place all the blame for my bad day on the antics of the two called out above.  I have to say that part of the reason I felt bad yesterday was that I was in need of a serious iron/protein fix.  I am not a huge meat eater.  I am by no means a vegetarian, but I really do not care to have meat every day, or every week for that matter.  On the other hand, when I want it I WANT it...as in, HAVE TO HAVE it.  Yesterday was one of those days.

Over here, you cannot just tell your handy husband to throw a steak on the ole backyard grill.  You don't see the kind of grills over here that us Americans are used to. Most grills over this way are more of this variety.

If you think this is a hot water heater sawed in half, fitted with metal legs, and full of burning pieces of olive wood/newspapers/whatever we had on hand, sprayed with any alcohol handy, and fanned with a pistolaki (aka hairdryer) then you are correct.

We cooked our "Clean Monday" meal on this contraption, and it did a darn good job.  Clean Monday is celebrated at the beginning of Lent here, and it starts not eating meat for 40 days, and, traditionally, people have outdoor picnics and eat seafood.

Anyway, last night I ate my share meat (all of my plate of "sofrito" and some of Christo's steak) and I am back in top shape today!

Does anybody else have these crazy meat cravings????
Until another day,
     Haley
