On summer evenings, Christos and I spent a lot of time in Old Corfu town, eating ice-cream or dinner and just wandering around, watching all the people, and taking in the sights. I really have not taken a lot of pictures of Old Corfu Town, and I promise I will, because it really is something to see. I do have a few random snapshots that I thought I would share.
On one such evening, we happened to see something that we both found pretty entertaining. There was a man swimming and a passel of cats that had followed him down to the water. The cats paced, pranced, and patiently pawed around and waited right at the water's edge the whole time this man was swimming. Some of them even dared to get paws wet going right down into the water to get as close as they could to the man while he took his evening dip. I have never seen anything like it.
When the man got out, they all swarmed around him and followed him back home. It was all very strange.
On a related note, I have always found the place where this man must live fairly interesting. On the inland side of the Old Fortress in Corfu town, there is a moat.
Along this moat, there is what looks like a sort of shantytown.
I remember at one time remarking on this little area, and I cannot remember who told me, but, apparently, the same families have lived in this little area for generations. And, despite its ramshackle appearance, it is a prime piece of real estate and the families who live here are quite happy to do so. Please do take note that the grass is well-manicured, they are obviously set up with electricity, and it is certainly waterfront property.
To each their own.
AND we are having an AMAZING time in ITALY. Had a couple of days on the Amalfi coast. Are up and at 'em this morning in Roma. Love to all.
